Although Barry retired from Midtown Financial Advisors in 2025, his roots in the firm – and the tight relationships he holds with both team members and clients – means he continues to support the firm informally.

He began his professional career in banking in the early 1970s, shortly after graduating from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where he played basketball. He completed the management training program with the former Southern National Bank and graduated from the North Carolina School of Banking in Chapel Hill.

He entered the insurance industry in 1980 and spent about 15 years with Jefferson-Pilot Insurance and its predecessor Pilot Life. Barry was the leading Sales Manager nationally for many of those years.

Barry set up a private practice, Barry Hopkins Financial Services, in 1996. In 2023, he partnered with the Midtown Financial Advisors team.
