Financial Advisor

Richard began working with Managing Partner Brad Smith in 2014, shortly before the independent advisory practice merged with other wealth management firms to form Midtown Financial Advisors.

He developed a passion for personal finance after leading one of Dave Ramsey’s “Financial Peace University” classes at his church in Greensboro, NC. He is committed maintaining a high standard of integrity in his work and in how he educates and serves people in the area of financial planning.

Prior to committing to serving his community through financial advising, he gained experience in the banking and insurance industries.

Richard graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in journalism and a concentration in business.

Man Guided By Faith & Focused on Family

Richard was born and raised in Greensboro, NC. For him it’s a “Goldilocks” place to live because it offers many of the amenities of a big city while retaining a small-town feel. It helps that both the beach and the mountains are only a few hours away.

Family is at the center of his life. He and his wife Rachel, are raising their two children, Ashlynn and Brody, in a home that holds deep personal meaning — it once belonged to his grandparents. Creating new memories in a place filled with so many from his own childhood has been a special and full-circle experience for their family.

Faith is also a foundational part of who Richard is. His family is actively involved at Westover Church — the shared name is just a coincidence — where he serves on the elder board, while he and Rachel lead a life community group for parents of young children. At The Covenant School, a private institution his children attend, he teaches a personal finance class to high schoolers while Rachel is a teacher assistant in first grade.

Outside of work and volunteering, he enjoys cheering on his favorite teams — the North Carolina Tar Heels, Atlanta Braves, and Carolina Panthers — and a good round of golf, even if he’s not headed to the PGA Tour anytime soon. Someday he’d like to try his hand at pickleball as well.
